Wind spped envelopes related to reefing - 2007/02/21 16:44
Can anyone please advise what reefing options suit the Contessa 26 related to wind speeds to maximise speed. i.e. Do you put one reef in at say 18 knots then wind in the head sail 20% at 20 then opt for a second reef at 25 etc? Have just bought a boat and have not yet launched it so any advice would be welocome.

I think you will find that since most of the "power" on the Contessa 26 comes from the Headsail that will be where you start your reefing - easy if you have a furling genoa !.
We generally start to reef the headsail at F5 -but leave the main alone .
At F6 we are well reefed on headsail but only reefing the main at the top end of 6

Hope this helps - the Contessa 26 will look after you whatever happens,but some sensible reefing makes life easier and progess faster !.
