Additional Pintles - 2006/10/25 21:30

Hi there,

Has anyone here added another set of pintles and gudgeons to their rudder? I'm somewhat skeptical about the strength of the co26 rudder... My top pintle is somewhat loose, and I have thought maybe the gudgeon pin can be replaced, or could some kind of nylon bush be added?

I don't think you need to worry about the strength of the Co26 rudder. We took ours off to take home one winter and had to hire a van to carry it as it was too heavy to put on the car roof!
All the 26's that we know have a pin (pintle?) at the base of the rudder into the keel plus two gudgeons and nuts and bolts on the transom. I suspect that these may wear as our 26 had her's replaced prior to our ownership. Ours had no noticable play on it either in or out of the water. Hope this helps.
