Mast rake and rig tuning - 2007/11/03 11:23
I've just re-rigged our Contessa, and have been trying to set the rig up properly. At the moment there seems to be a lot of rake. How much rake is there on a properly tweaked mast? I presume it's measured by measuring the offset from the mast base of the main halyard with a weight suspended from it like a plumb-bob. Obviously the boat would have to be level. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

Richard

On the c026 web site (co26.com)under the heading 'Contessa Corner, Contessa 26 tech notes, Rigging notes, is an article posted by Nigel Charlesworth (UK). He notes a 2 degree mast rake should be used and a 295mm displacement from mast head to foot should acheive this. Regarding rig tension he notes 10% of ultimate breaking strain with caps at 15%. The preceeding article on the web site recommends tighter forward lowers.

Havent tried it myself as I'm still out of the water messing around with the rudder!

Cheers
