What is the standard size for a Contessa 26 storm jib ? Crusader have quoted for a 30 sq foot while other sail makers have quoted 50 ? Or, does anybody have the correct sail dimensions ?

Thanks in advance, plus interetsed if anybody has a recommendation (looking for florescent orange with piston hanks).

Cheers, Andrew

Hello Andrew

Funny, Crusader quoted a 50sq ft storm jib to me?!

North 30sq ft
Westaway 50sq ft
Banks 42sq ft
Channon 41sq ft

Many others only quoted a price with no size.

I believe what you need is an area of sail with which you can work a boat to windward, if it's too small you won't get anywhere unless it's down wind!

But don't take my word for it, speak to the sailmakers and get back to us.

Guy.

Ken asked me to post this for your information he says "having in my possession an A0-size sheet of paper, annotated by David Sadler, dated Nov '68, entitled MKII Sail Plan Contessa Class, I thought I could offer some useful information to 'eebygum'.

In view of my problems, maybe you could relay the relevant info to the member - actually all the sails are shewn on the drawing, along with areas, sail cloth, luff, leach, foot measurements et. - and I would be more than pleased to provide all the information thereon should anyone else require details.

With regard the Storm Jib David Sadler recommended:-

Area - 56 sq ft
Cloth - 8 ozs
Luff - 17' 6"
Leach - 13' 0"
Foot - 8' 9"
Hollow in Leach - 6"
Hollow in Foot - 3"

I for one would like to know all that information!

Any chance it can be published on the Association website?

Many thanks,

Guy.
