At the recent Royal Yorkshire Yacht Club Contessa class meeting Steve Wood (True Blue) was elected new RYYC Contessa class captain, the discussion ranged far and wide, but the use of J24 spinnakers was reaffirmed until the end of the 2008 season and the use of feathering propellers allowed.

With the addition of True Blue and Tye Tye (originally called My Choice, then Light Bob and most recently Kentish Sark) the fleet is confirmed at 8, but rumour has it that Dr Pete has bought Halcyon Days which would make 9.

The fleet has agreed to standardise on the Kemp sail plan that Tessa uses, by the start of the 2009 season, which includes roller furling. Other "one design" criteria include a 2 bladed prop, this forms the basis for the handicap system for racing with other classes all Co26's will race on the same BHS (PY) number. There are already no allowances for 3 bladed props and from 1st Jan 2009 no more J24 spinnakers, (which are popping up throughout the fleet).

So if you plan to join the RYYC fleet be sure you comply with this "one design" concept by the end of 2008 to stand a chance of winning.
